Georgia coach Mark Richt Angry At Bulldog Players For Post Game Stomp on Vanderbilt Logo

RICHT SICK AT BULLDOG POSTGAME STOMP ON VANDY STAR: It was an ugly game, followed by ugly actions. Georgia was able to slog out a 20-17 win Saturday against Vanderbilt with a last-second FG. Bulldogs coach Mark Richt was happy to get the victory, but quite unhappy about his team’s celebration afterwards.

Georgia Vanderbilt star stomp

Just after Brandon Coutu’s kick sailed through the uprights, a crowd of Georgia players gathered at midfield and started a post-game stomp on the Vanderbilt star.

Richt quickly ran out to the 50-yard line and angrily chased his ‘Dogs off the logo. ESPN sideline reporter Jeanine Edwards soon caught up with the coach, and her first question was about his players’ petty pouncing.

That’s not us,” Richt replied. “I apologize to the Vanderbilt fans.”

Vandy coach Bobby Johnson wasn’t too thrilled with the tasteless toe-tapping, either. After shaking hands, Johnson & Richt apparently exchanged some verbal unpleasantries, but neither coach would comment about it to the press.

Vanderbilt Georgia 2006

Those Bulldogs with the happy feet were probably trying to dance away the bad memories of last season, when the Commodores came to Athens and kicked up a 24-22 upset.

First of all, stomping on an opponent’s logo is always an embarrassing sign of poor sportmanship. Second, such actions can lead to dangerous brawls and even some pepper spray in the peepers. Third, you’re directing your misled machismo at Vanderbilt.

*VANDERBILT*, for Cornelius’s sake! A team everyone always steps on in the SEC. A team everyone’s supposed to throttle by at least 3 touchdowns. A team that’s never won the SEC crown. A team that hasn’t had a winning season in 25 years.

Georgia Western Carolina

Hate to break it to you, Georgia boys, but if you’re going to act like that after cutting it close against the Commodores, you might as well tear down the goal posts when you beat 1-AA Western Carolina.

But if you can somehow trash the Gators at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in two weeks, then feel free to toast yourselves.
