We’re an alumnus of the University of Georgia and would personally like to thank the Bulldogs basketball team for helping our fellow, former Baxter Hill residents learn the name of the head coach of the club: Felton (we think).
(Like us, looking for Spring Practice injury reports)
When you’re a Georgia sports fan in March, right about now you’re checking the Winder Barrow Daily Examiner Spring Football Practice injury ticker, and avoiding SEC basketball-related news at all cost.
All that said, we were happy to see our squad achieve the lowest seed of a power conference team in NCAA basketball tournament history. Sadly though, there is indeed, apparently, a catch. Thanks to our seemingly pre-pubescent Athletic Director Damon Evans.
We now have the SEC’s version of Steve Lavin*, as Evans confirmed that coach Dennis Felton will indeed, unequivocably be back to coach the team next season - though in our well-reasoned opinion (his record might have something to do with it), he doesn’t deserve it.
“Of course he’s going to be back,” said Damon Evans, the athletics director. “He’s our basketball coach.”
So thanks to a 72-hour ransacking of SEC opponents, Felton gets to erase his previously putried four-year-long resume at Georgia.
Almost as brilliant a move by Evans as former AD Vince Dooley signing Tubby Smith to a head basketball coaching contract that didn’t contain any out-clause provisions.
We know we should be enjoying this day and basking in the afterglow of the UGA tournament performance. Are we being to hard on the coach? Probably.
