Gaunt Canseco Tried To ‘Reverse’ Steroid Damage

NBC 2 in San Diego, via DEADSPIN, reports today that “Jose Canseco pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor offense of trying to bring a fertility drug into the U.S. from Mexico. The former baseball slugger and admitted steroid user appeared in a federal courtroom Tuesday to face charges.

Emaciated Jose Canseco has lost weight after stopping steroid usage

(Someone needs a sammich)

Canseco was given a slap on the wrist by U.S. Magistrate Judge Ruben B. Brooks, as he was sentenced to 12 months unsupervised probation.

What is Jose Canseco’s greatest career achievement?

More interesting is Canseco’s appearance, and what he told the judge about his trip to Tijuana.

Canseco told the judge he had gone to Tijuana to find a substance to restore his testosterone levels in an attempt to reverse damage done by his admitted steroids use.

This of course is the same Canseco who shouted from the rooftops for years that steroid use was manageable and completely healthy for the human body.

Now look at him. He’s dropped a ton of weight (no money for a new suit?) and is desperately seeking out drugs in TJ to reverse the “damage” steroids have done to his body.

The sad part of all this isn’t the trainwreck that Canseco’s life has become, but the kids who listened to him about the wonderment of steroid use over the past decade. God knows how many people he’s hurt from the very public example he set.

Canseco in past weeks has said that he now regrets naming names in his books on steroid use in MLB. The irony is those books are probably the only thing worthwhile that he’s ever done in his life, considering the first book effectively wiped out steroid use in MLB as we know it today.

The real reason Canseco regrets his tell-alls is he burned all his bridges in life with them, which has left him jobless and broke.

We really need to get Jose and John Daly together.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Jose wasted away to nothing and spent his remaining days as a frail old man?

Think Jose would want supervised probation, just so he'd have someone to talk to.

Next season's "Surreal Life" only needs to star Canseco & Daly.
