After last week’s trip to Tokyo and Sunday night in DC, Opening Day started for real for the rest of Major League Baseball. And the Chicago Cubs embarked on their 100th season since their last World Series win.
As usual, there was high drama at Wrigley Field this cold, rainy afternoon, as Kosuke Fukudome made quite a debut in Cubbie Blue. And as usual, the Cubs blew it.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the 9th and with two men on, the Baby Bears’ newest Japanese import slammed a shot off of Brewers reliever Eric Gagne into the right field bleachers, tying the game and giving Cubs fans hope.

Of course, being the Cubs, we all know how this ends up: Bob Howry gives up a hit, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly, and the Brew Crew wins 4-3 in 10 innings.
But it wasn’t all bad news at Wrigley today. Kosuke did go 3-for-3 in a valiant effort. And Cubs legend Ernie Banks was honored with the unveiling of a new statue situated outside of 1060 West Addison.
Best of all, fans got to chant “Fuk-U-Do-Me!” without being escorted out by security.
