The BOSTON GLOBE reports a former Yankees TV announcer was “was arrested yesterday on federal charges of transporting and possessing child pornography.”
69-year-old Robert Gamere, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, “broadcast professional baseball, college sports, and horse races in a career that spanned three decades. … The pornographic images seized by federal agents, she added, were “extremely, extremely disturbing and involved very young children.”
Gamere was released on bond, but must “stay in his apartment and wear an electronic-monitoring bracelet. He is not allowed to even answer the door to trick-or-treaters on Halloween.”
Gamere is best-known for his broadcast work in Boston, but he also broadcast Yankees games.
Gamere held numerous other broadcasting jobs, including doing the play-by-play for Harvard football. He had made his television play-by-play debut in 1970 for the New York Yankees on WPIX but was let go after one season and replaced by Bill White.
He also was a Boston TV sports anchor, but was fired after being slapped with a sex harrassment suit by a Boston man.
God-awful charges for someone who is apparently quite ill. As if the Yankees haven’t had enough bad news lately.

Gamere is a Boston guy thru and thru. Used to see him several times a year in Brighton and Brookline bars. The guy was a truly disgusting drunk. Didn't know he was into little kids but had heard he did like men. Couldn't tell most of the time as he was usually almost always tanked. Got fired from his last TV gig (WBZ I think) for being a booze bag.
