FORMER ND QB JONES DITCHES DEKALB FOR QUEEN CITY: Demetrius Jones was supposed to be headed to Northern Illinois. As it turns out, the former Notre Dame quarterback never made it to DeKalb. Instead, he planted his feet in Cincinnati:
The CINCINNATI ENQUIRER tosses news that Jones is now officially a member of the Bearcats. Coach Brian Kelly says the ex-Irish starter showed up at his office on Thursday and told him he wanted to play for the Big East school.
Kelly previously recruited Jones while he was running the show at Central Michigan. And the wandering QB may have finally found a good home, as the 24th-ranked Bearcats are off to a 4-0 start. However, Jones must sit out this season.
But the position is just as crowded as it was in South Bend, as Cincy has six slingers hoping to line up under center. And Jones isn’t the first transfer to recently hit the campus. Senior starter Ben Mauk left the wilderness of Wake Forest to navigate his way to Nippert Stadium.
For Demetrius and his never-ending mission for playing time, that’s three 1-A programs down, 117 more to go.
