Perhaps the greatest wide receiver in Texas A&M history, Terrence Murphy, posted an ominous message on his Facebook account today about former A&M head football coach Dennis Franchione:
It is amazing that two coaches in the Big 12 are getting negative press for mis-treating players on their football teams. WOW, Coach Fran treated players at A&M like this the day he arrived at A&M.
Now that I am a man, looking back it hurts my heart to know how many of my teammates will never come back to A&M because of those antics, and how many kid’s life (sic) were altered because of it.
Guess it did not happen to a football legend’s son, so it was ignored. ESPN brought back bad memories. I fault myself for not stepping up as the leader of the team and saying something.
Franchione coached A&M for only five seasons, from 2003-07. He was bought out by the school following the ‘07 season. He coached Murphy during the 2003-04 seasons.

Murphy was team captain of the Aggies during his two seasons with Franchione, and was a two-time 1st Team All-Big 12 (wide receiver and kick returner) performer. He was also three-time Academic All-Big 12 during his four years at College Station.
Murphy was a second-round pick of the Packers in 2005 and had his career cut short after only three games because of a spinal condition.
For a player of Murphy’s stature to come out and accuse Franchione of treating Aggie players the same way that former Kansas Coach Mark Mangino and suspended Texas Teach coach Mike Leach allegedly treated their players is something to take very seriously.
I have a message into Murphy for further comment about Franchione. I don’t think this will be the last we hear about this.

Odd that he would post this message now as coaches are getting clobbered by accusations of cruelty to players.
Apparently Terrence Murphy didn’t do too well in English 101. Mr. Murphy writes,”…and how many kid’s life (sic) were altered because of it.” It should read “and how many kids’ lives were altered because of it.” The apostraphe comes after the ’s’ in kids because it is plural possessive and ‘life’ needs to be pluralized to agree in subject to “kids’.”
I’m just doing my part to help Mr. Murphy take full advantage of his Texas A & M education.

@Proffesor Biggum Saks … “apostraphe”? And which education are you taking advantage of, exactly? Or maybe it’s taking advantage of you …

Great great awesome comeback, farmer fite!! I think it’s taking advantage of him, btw.
On topic, how does a football player grow? How does a coach try to get improvement from his players without physically hurting them? One little tiny spanking is ok? Probably not. What does that leave? Coming up with creative, variegated, “something new every time” ways to try to make ‘em think, to make ‘em improve.
I’d have to rate Leach’s locking up that guy in a utility closet for an hour or three somewhat more humane and acceptable than Houston Nutt making underperforming players at Arkansas wear pink.
