Florida Receiver Happy To Have ‘Real Quarterback’

Jeremy Fowler of the ORLANDO SENTINEL has Univ. of Florida wide receiver Deonte Thompson talking about the transition from Tim Tebow to new Gators quarterback John Brantley.

Deonte Thompson

“You never know with Tim. You can bolt, you think he’s running but he’ll come up and pass it to you. You just have to be ready at all times. With Brantley, everything’s with rhythm, time. You know what I mean, a real quarterback.”

Florida Receiver Deonte Thompson would rather …

I wonder how many other Gators quietly shared Thompson’s view during the past three seasons? I doubt he was alone. The irony is despite Tebow’s unpredictabillity last season, Florida was generally a colossal bore on offense.

But this is the SEC and Brantley is an unknown quantity. Playing catch in his pajamas with Thompson all summer is a long way from Tuscaloosa.

I think what he said is being taken the wrong way. Personally, I took it as Thompson basically meaning that the offense is more mainstream/typical. You have a traditional QB now instead of a guy who can make plays on the ground as well, making receivers’ jobs easier. But, Deonte certainly doesn’t look like one of the brightest, so I guess you have decode what he says!

Rem. that first national championship Tebow was nothing more than a gimmick in that offense and wasnt the main quarterback. I say he won 1.5 national championships.

Maybe if Deonte caught the ball when it was thrown his way then he could say something…just saying!

He obviously didn’t want to insult Tebow, but that isn’t the point. He just exposed himself for who he was.

Deonte’s is taking classes in advanced toenail clipping and basket-weaving. he better hone up those skills, cause after collegiate ball, that’s all he’s got.

Why do people feel the need to criticize everyone. I bet the ones that are leaving hte negative messages about Deonte have never played football and never will or maybe didn’t have any friends when they were inhigh school. Bottom line is, he is at a very prestigious university whether he is as smart as you or not. Bottom line, he will leave with a degree that says Univeristy of Florida. No one has to decode what he is saying. He said what he meant! And if Tebow would have thrown him the ball more, maybe if would have caught it. Deonte is a true born athlete whether any of you like it or not. As far as the NFL is concerned, I know he can go because they pick and put garbage on the field every year. Including QB’s that actually get drafted. He’s a kid, let him live.

He needs some serious dental work. No wonder Tebow did not pass to him. The glare from the teeth would blind any quarterback. Brantly is predictable and this will be evident when the SEC defenses load up on his predictable behavior. I guess many have lost their memory of the limited times B played for Tebow. Completion percentage?????? Not good. This will be a very bad, bad year for the Gators. We wil not have all that rushing yards that T provided. Brantly does not like to run. Give me a break. Full scholarship?

I like how people say Tebow “only” won 1 National Title and “only” 1 SEC title. First of all, how many have you won? And second of all, pretty sure he has 2 shiny SEC Title Rings, and 2 VERY shiny National Title rings. think before you talk idiots.

Well Tim was definately the most successful college QB of all time as a leader of his team. i think the gators system worked for winning without a doubt in college football. Would it work in the PRS probally not. I can see frustration of receiverswith Tim’s offense but the oofense was just set up that way and it was hard to stop. i am sure they talked about changing Tims throwing motion but you have to go with what your best at. Ken Dorsey from Miami won 35 in a row with leadership skills also and also should of had 3 national championships. Some times a team are what they are. I think the receivers will definately have better stats along with the running backs. But will they be as successful in terms of National Championships. Probally not. Success is a funny entity. You can win and loose and loose and win. Tim won but could loose in the next level. The receivers for the Gators could loose this year but win in the next level. It all depends on our perceptions!

Dude the Heisman is overrated. It just means your the best college player, but that does not equal success in the NFL. Your right, Tebow will be in the NFL, but I doubt as a starting QB. Remember, your not going to have sub par players chasing you, your going to have bigger and faster players taking shots at you.

God’s Continued blessings on Tim Tebow, a young man who will always succeed because he is a TRUE Man of GOD. When God is first in your life….one will soar like an eagle. Deonte Thompson..”You should be ashamed,” talking behind a Gator Teammates back is a disgrace on you. You will never meet your potential or succeed with an attitude like that…………You will stay on the ground with the chickens.

First of all, I am not a Gator fan other than through my wife. I have followed Tebow because he is very exciting and UNPREDICTABLE. You know he might do anything because he has the athletic ability to do what ever he needs to do to get results. Does he have the strongest arm ever? Probably not. Does he have the most accurate arm ever? Maybe not. Does he run more than most QB’s? Ok. But does he find a way to lead his team to victories? Let me check… well maybe only in the four years at Florida. QB’s are not “passers”, they are supposed to be leaders on the field. It is not what he does that makes him great as much as what he shows in his heart that makes him great. Oh and ALYX (from 3/23/10):
“Tebow threw like a girl bottom line.”

NO!!!!! 1 HEISMAN, 2 SEC RINGS, I TOTAL RUSHING TD RECORD, AND ……OH YEAH 2NATIONAL CHAMP RINGS!!!!! BOTTOM LINE (the REAL bottom line)

Also Deonte gold never looked as bad as you display it. Do us all a favor and hide that gold by shutting your mouth!!

Deonte, Tebow will see you in the NFL (well maybe). Just if you do, please don’t try to ruin his carreer by playing for the Broncos.
