So, you’d like to vote for those plucky kids on “American Idol”, but just can’t stand watching it due to all the Seacrest? Well, here’s some democracy you can get behind: The Phoenix Suns are letting fans vote to see who will make the final roster for the Suns Dancers.
(No, you may not vote for Ashley Roberts)
The Suns Dancers are currently holding auditions, as if you didn’t know, with the finals coming on Saturday (video and more photos following the jump). And featured on the team site is a page where fans can vote for the final 16 they think should make the squad. Two things about that, though:
The page currently seems to be down (traffic jam!) … no, wait - it’s now back up! (Turn down volume before you click on link if you’re at work.) And it’s interactive! Drop and drag cheerleaders to dancing stardom, or consign them to a career waiting tables at Applebees. You have the power!
Except, possibly, you don’t. According to the wording of the promotion (seen below), “Fan voting will be taken into consideration when determining this year’s Suns Dancers.” In other words, “We want your participation, but your vote probably won’t mean squat.” But I can dream, can’t I?
Here’s your opportunity to cast your vote for the 2009-10 Suns Dancers.
And when you vote you’ll will be entered into a drawing for a pair of courtside seats to a 2009-10 Suns home game. Voting will conclude on Monday, August 24 at 5 p.m. Fan voting will be taken into consideration when determining this year’s Suns Dancers.
For the first time, audition finalists will also participate in a week-long training camp to get a glimpse into life as a Suns Dancer, coinciding with the week-long fan vote.
Following the conclusion of fan voting, the Suns will offer fans a behind-the-scenes look into Suns Dancers auditions on the KUTP My45 exclusive special, “Making of the Suns Dancers.” The show will air on Tuesday, August 25 at 9:30 p.m.
Or, you can go backstage with the Suns Dancers online, at their site. I like the second dancer here, who more or less accuses you of being a deranged stalker.
The lady leading the action in the lead photo above, by the way, is Ashley Roberts of the Pussycat Dolls, who was born in Phoenix and attended Shadow Mountain High School (which also gave us Mike Bibby, Curt Schilling and Amy Davidson from “8 Simple Rules”). She’ll be your choreographer for the duration of the tryouts:
