Earlier today I posted this and this (and Barry posted this) of Philly fans making jackasses of themselves. Here’s something much cooler. Phillies Hall of Fame announcer Harry “Voice of God” Kalas calls the final out last night (that’s announcer Chris Wheeler flailing around in the background):
Kalas also called the Phils’ ‘80 World Series win over my Royals, and the ‘83 Series against Balto - kinda sorta.
From 1980-84, MLB actually banned local radio broadcasts of the World Series. As the story goes, MLB endured such a backlash from Philly fans over not being able to hear Harry call their W.S. games live in ‘80 and ‘83, the league went back to allowing local announcers to call the games in 1985.

Harry Kalas is the greatest.

There are no greater baseball broadcasters than Vin Scully & Harry Kalas. Hell, there's probably not better broadcasters in all of sports.

From this angle, Harry kind of looks like the dad from "Malcolm in the Middle".

I would have rather had Harry Kalas than Jon Miller & Joe Morgan.

Chris Wheeler's got quite the moves back there. He should try out for "Dancing With The Stars".

Harry Kalas has nowhere near the awe-inspiring talent of Joe Morgan.
Obviously I'm lying.

Jon Miller is not that bad. He's definitely no Vin Scully or Harry Kalas, but how many people are? Miller does a fine enough job for ESPN. And it could be worse. How would Chris Berman sound?

Was there anyone with satellite radio that was able to hear both Kalas & Scully during the NLCS? That would have been really cool to listen to.

Is that the same guy who does voiceover highlights for "Inside The NFL"? He does sound very familiar.

No offense to Mr. Kalas, who is a great broadcaster, but the Voice of God to me will always be longtime NFL Films narrator John Facenda.

Harry did not make the original call over the Royals in 1980. Local radio was not allowed to broadcast then, networks only. The call that you hear him make on the tapes was done after the Series. Thank the Phillies fans for MLB changing the rules on broadcasting after 1980, we raised hell because we wanted to hear Harry and Whitey (Ashburn) broadcasting our boys.

Of course, you didn't see the follow up footage of a hootin' & hollerin' Harry turning over a Nissan Sentra singlehanded.

I bet Harry was the vodka bottle thrower.
