If, say, hours before tip-off of the Final Four, you felt compelled to try to get a seat at the Alamodome tonight, prepare to pony up some dough, as the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS discovers tickets are going for as much as $6,000 apiece.
“As of Thursday morning, the average Final Four transaction on StubHub was $770, which could include between one and three games. That’s nearly $200 more than last year’s Final Four average. “
The fact that the four schools involved are mostly popular powerhouses with enrollments above 20,000 students can’t be helping tamp down demand either.
The article goes on to note that there isn’t much local demand to purchase seats as San Antonians are spoiled with multiple NBA titles.
“The locals have had four championships with the Spurs,” Best Tickets owner Jerome Cohen said. “Why would this interest them? They say, ‘I can go to the NBA Finals for $100. Why should I spend $500 to see the college championship?’”
I don’t know. Maybe because the Spurs are a plodding, machine-like and charisma-less squad? Just a hunch.
