After Neil Diamond, Fenway Can’t Face The Music

Neil Diamond is set to rock Yawkey Way, as the “Sweet Caroline” crooner will be belting out the Red Sox’s signature song & many other classics on August 23 at Fenway Park.

Neil Diamond Hot August Night

But after that, not much else musically is on tap for the ol’ ballpark.

The BOSTON HERALD’s INSIDE TRACK reports that Red Sox management is having trouble landing another big-name act to entertain the fans at Fenway this season.

Originally, Bon Jovi - apparently Bill Belichick’s favorite - was supposed to play August 23 & 24, but the band backed out at the last minute. (Running an Arena Football team is harder than it looks.)

And other big-time acts coming to Massachusetts are already scheduled to perform at the region’s other big-name sports facilities, such as Bruce Springsteen playing at Gillette Stadium, and The Eagles playing TD Banknorth Garden.

The Sox have been trying to woo hometown balladeer James Taylor to play Fenway the night after Diamond. But with summer competition from Tom Petty, The Police and New Kids On The Block (really?), the singer-songwriter is concerned about not getting a sellout.

(Speaking of, tickets for Neil’s show are still available.)

So, what musician or musicians can be taken out to the ballgame? Herald commenters have suggested trying to get hometown heroes Aerosmith. We have more than a feeling that they should sign up, who else - Boston.

Any other ideas?
