We’ve all wanted to go back in time at certain junctures in our lives: I often imagine myself traveling back to 2002 to try and talk some sense into Dusty Baker before Game 7 of the World Series. Or just to be sure, go to 1975 to prevent Livan Hernandez from being born. But here’s one guy who actually did turn back the clock. At least for a while.

Anthony Avalos attended Yuma High School in Arizona as a senior this year; dated high school chicks and even tried out for the basketball team. One problem: He actually graduated from high school in Florida in 2005. Avalos is really 22 years old, and the whole thing was a scam to try and get a basketball scholarship. How did he get caught? 7-foot-4 Eighth-Grade Football Player Wins At Life

When your eighth grade football team has a wide receiver who’s 7-foot-4, that can only be a good thing, right? Meet Brenden Adams, who plays for the Morgan Middle School football team in Ellensburg, Wash. Not only is he the tallest player in youth football, but at 14, he’s said to be the tallest teenager in the world.

He’s also a huge inspiration to his teammates, but for different reasons than one might think. Brenden’s height is due to a rare chromosome disorder, and he also suffers from enlarged joints and arthritis. It’s difficult for him to run, and he can’t jump; and in fact has seen little action in games. (more…)

Montana, Gretzky, Smith Progeny Still Undefeated

It’s the only high school football snack bar that sells autograph pens. At any given game you may seen Joe Montana, Wayne Gretzky, Will Smith, or even Tom Cruise in the stands. I attended an Oaks Christian High School game last season and it’s actually kind of hilarious: The real Hollywood High.

You probably know by now that Montana, Gretzky and Smith all have sons who play football at Oaks Christian in Westlake Village (near Los Angeles). The update is that starting quarterback Nick Montana, a senior, has led the Lions to an 8-0 record so far, and a No. 5 spot in USA TODAY’s Super 25 football rankings. Oaks Christian, in fact, hasn’t lost a game since Oct. 19, 2007 — a 29-game win streak, 22 of those victories directed by Montana. (more…)

Stanford Fullback Goes Both Ways (NTTAWWT…)

Before the season started, one particularly intrepid reporter for OREGONLIVE.COM noticed that Stanford coaches were enamored with fullback Owen Marecic, and that Marecic had also been playing well at linebacker in practice. That reporter, Ken Goe, said that Marecic “may play two ways next season,” despite the fact that making a man play 60 minutes while everyone else is playing 30 is insane.

(We can’t really tell what’s going on there, so we’ll go ahead and assume that Marecic is putting his hand through the opponent’s eye sockets and into his brain because that’s what a badass would do.)

Lo and behold, that’s where we are; in the practice for Stanford’s upcoming tilt against new Pac-10 overlord Oregon, the Cardinal’s leading tackler, Clinton Snyder, ripped up his left knee and is gone for the season. Anyone want to take this one? Anyone who’s not already starting on offense? Anyone? No? All right, Marecic; time to kick twice the ass for the rest of the season. No pressure!

Update: Elizabeth Lambert Suspended By Lobos

Earlier this morning, we showed you video of New Mexico women’s soccer player Elizabeth Lambert going full berzerker on the Lobos’ opponents, BYU. Despite repeated blatant offenses against the Cougars (no, not them) - not the least of which was yanking a competitor to the ground by her ponytail, as seen below, Lambert only got a yellow card for her actions in the 1-0 loss.

(C’mon, ref, let ‘em play.)

Thanks to the highlights hitting the national airwaves, though, school officials had no choice but to address Lambert’s repeated instances dirty play; she has now publicly apologized and has been, of course, indefinitely suspended. Apology is after the break.

Ohio State’s Full “Throwback” Uniforms Revealed

In case you hadn’t heard, it sounds like Ohio State is going to wear some throwback uniforms for their annual tilt with Michigan on November 21. We saw a blurry camera pic of the jersey yesterday and scratched our heads; it hardly looked like a throwback, just another future-tron white jersey that are all over college football these days.

(Well well.)

ELEVEN WARRIORS appears to have found the rest of the uniform, pictured above. Now, the “throwback” stuff comes into play. The font for the numbers on the helmet seems to have been stolen directly from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ current uniforms, but the pants are old school to the core and it all looks exactly the way you’d want a throwback to look, really.
