Being a Memphis Grizzlies fan can not only be depressing, but dangerous.
WPTY-TV reports that a group of Grizzlies faithful fell from the stands at FedEx Forum Saturday night when a railing gave way.
About an hour before tip-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves, players were leaving the court after the pre-game shootaround. Team officials say the fans were leaning on the railing trying to get autographs from the players passing below - when the attendees took a tumble:
A handful of people fell three to five feet onto the concrete floor of the arena. One man was taken away on a stretcher. Two other victims were treated on the scene.
Adding insult to injuries, the Grizz ended up getting gutted by T-Wolves, 114-105. Worse still, as the MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL APPEAL points out, the accident happened on Fan Appreciation Night.
Some appreciation.
We also expect Memphis management to be fielding calls from local legal beagles in the next few days, on behalf of scarred spectators. Who wants in on some “emotional distress” dough?
Remember the good ol’ days, when the biggest fear for FedEx Forum folks was female fans flashing their funbags? Maybe she came back - and was the real reason for the excessive rail leaning.
