Ex-RB Dave Meggett Charged With Rape… Again

There’s really no good word to have in the same sentence as “rape.” Even “failed” indicates that one was going to take place, after all. But on the flip side, of all the words in the English language, few are worse to have in that context than “again.” That’s what they call criminal recidivism, and that’s where we find Dave Meggett, former New York Giant tailback and current sexual assault machine.

Dave Meggett Mugshot

Meggett’s latest foray into sex crime (and according to the NEW YORK POST, there have been several) comes via North Charleston, S.C., where a 21-year-old woman (half Meggett’s age, mind you) told police that she awoke yesterday at 1 a.m. to find Meggett (whom she knew as “Mike”) sitting on her bed, demanding the $200 she owed him. When she couldn’t produce it, he allegedly raped her. What happened next is an exercise in stupidity so thorough, one wonders how it took 42 years for Meggett to be incarcerated for life:

Afterward, the man told her he was sorry and that she didn’t have to repay him. The woman drove herself to the hospital, where Meggett later met her and was arrested, according to police records.

Problem #1 is, well, raping someone. Just don’t ever do that, ever. And while we’re hesitant, for obvious reasons, to provide advice to those who have just committed a rape, we would suggest not offering apologies and forgiving debts in the wake of a sexual assault, because it just doesn’t f**king work that way. Driving to the hospital and being arrested there, though, was a nice cherry on top of the sh*t sundae.

We mentioned “incarcerated for life” earlier for a reason, and that is that if the charges against Meggett are true, he is probably never coming out of jail until he is 89,000 years old. Meggett, you see, was already serving a 2-year probation for sexual battery in North Carolina, and we are very, very sure rape is a substantial violation of that probation.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that at the time of this latest alleged rape, Meggett was out on bail for–one guess–yes, rape; this one allegedly happened in September of 2008. Make it worse, you say? Okay, would it help that the September victim was only 17? Because she was.

Before he faces his charges in a court of law, obviously, we can’t sit here and pass judgment on Meggett. But if the charges are true, then dude. We’re way past the point of “get this man some help” and we are screaming toward “throw him in a jail without a roof then douse the jail in napalm then throw the jail into a volcano.”
