Peter Gammons this week on ESPN-TV said the Red Sox’ $51.1M negotiating fee for Japanese Pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka “is partly the price of admission to become a major player in Asia. … This makes them a major player in Japan and they’re really hoping to open some sort of agreements and complexes in Taiwan and mainland China.”
