Dwayne Jarrett, the former USC standout-turned-struggling Carolina Panthers rookie recorded his first stat of 2008: 1 DUI.
The wide receiver was pulled over in a Charlotte, North Carolina suburb at around 3 am early Tuesday morning. He had driven over the center line and would fail field sobriety tests after being pulled over. And if the cop had asked him to run a few routes, he probably would have screwed that up, too.
Jarrett’s being in Charlotte coincided with the start of his team’s offseason conditioning. From YAHOO! NEWS:
“The Panthers selected the former Southern California star in the second-round of last year’s draft. Three days later, the Panthers released veteran Keyshawn Johnson, believing the 6-foot-4 Jarrett would replace him as the No. 2 receiver opposite the smaller and speedy Steve Smith.
But Jarrett struggled to learn the playbook and adapt to the NFL game. He was beaten out for a starting job and even had trouble getting on the field on game days.”
The arresting officer declined to mention Jarrett’s blood-alcohol level, and a spokesman for the court said that they had not received the documents with that information. That’s just despicable. Even when he gets a DUI, he can’t put up any numbers.
