DUI-Charged Duck Suspended For Season By Kelly

Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso, who was cited for DUI on Saturday morning, has been suspended for the season by Ducks Coach Chip Kelly. Oregon sent out this release today:

ChipKelly Kiko Alonso DUI

University of Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso has been suspended for the entire 2010 football season, effectively immediately, according to head coach Chip Kelly Monday.

Kelly added that specific details regarding Alonso’s involvement within the program during the suspension are still being formulated, but that the suspension would definitely exclude the Los Gatos, Calif., redshirt freshman from playing in any games during the entire 2010 season.

I have a feeling this suspension will be a little stickier than LeGarrette Blount’s last season.

Alonso was the player who Jamere Holland wrote about on his Facebook page yesterday. Two entries by Holland on the website, the first of which questioned Kelly’s discipline of Alonso, ultimately got the senior wide receiver dismissed from the team.

Based on the significant suspension given Alonso, is it reasonable to think that if Holland hadn’t posted on Facebook yesterday that Alonso would’ve been the player getting dismissed from the team?
