Five Russian runners & two other Olympians are facing banishment from the Beijing Games because they provided the wrong pee.
(Yelena Soboleva went all out in providing her sample for drug testing)
The LOS ANGELES TIMES jogs up the latest doping scandal to hit the sports world. In this one, seven female athletes representing Russia have been “provisionally suspended” by the International Association of Athletic Federations for presenting false fluids during recent drug testing:
The athletes were charged with fraudulent substitution of urine, “which is both a prohibited method and also a form of tampering with the doping control process,” according to an IIAF (sic) press release.
To paraphrase a Red Sox fan, that’s a wicked pissah if we ever heard one.
So, who were the gals that were caught with the incorrect tinkle?
The suspended Russian athletes are: runners Svetlana Cherkasova (800 meter), Yulia Fomenko (1,500), Yelena Soboleva (800, 1,500), Tatyana Tomashova (1,500) and Olga Yegorova (1,500 and 5,000), hammer thrower Gulfiya Khanafeyeva and discus thrower Darya Pishchalnikova.
800 to 5,000 meters? Wow, these women must be huuuuuuge! We’d hate to get caught in the wee-washed waterfall of that urine sampling.
STEROID NATION has more info on these law-breaking ladies, and also rats out a couple of cheating Romanian runners for good measure.
