We wrote last week that Indianapolis was pitching to host the 2012 Super Bowl. Well, the NFL was convinced, as the league has voted to let the big game enjoy some Hoosier hospitality.
The INDIANAPOLIS STAR hikes up news that the Colts’ hometown beat out Houston & Phoenix (OK, Glendale) for the right to host Super Bowl XLVI. And there’s one man the good people of central Indiana have to thank:
Dennis Hopper.
The actor appeared in & narrated a video as part of Indy’s presentation to NFL owners. Why Hopper? Well, he was nominated for an Oscar in his role as an alcoholic basketball coach in the movie “Hoosiers”. And he’s apparently good buds with Colts owner Jim Irsay.
The idea to have Hopper paid off, as the owners reportedly gave a huge ovation afterwards - and then gave Indianapolis the Super Bowl itself.
It also likely helped that Indy’s presentation went first before Houston’s & Phoenix’s … er, Glendale’s. Let’s face it - once you have Dennis Hopper extolling the economic virtues of your fair city, not much else can top that.
