Midday Friday I reported, “Dayton coach Brian Gregory has been extended an offer by Georgia Tech (to coach the school’s basketball team) but has not yet decided if he will take the job.”
(Georgia Tech has refused to confirm the news)
After my report, Georgia Tech Associate Athletic Director Wayne Hogan issued the following statement:
The search for the next men’s basketball coach at Georgia Tech has not concluded and is still ongoing, contrary to a number of published internet reports on Friday. As is our policy, we do not comment on ongoing searches. However, due to these erroneous reports we felt compelled to clarify the status of the search process.
This morning, the official University of Dayton sports Twitter feed reported:
It has been confirmed that Brian Gregory is taking a new coaching position at Georgia Tech. We wish BG and his family good luck.
Georgia Tech has subsequently refused to confirm on the record that Gregory has been offered the job.
