COUSIN RATTED OUT VICK? MORT WON’T OWN UP TO GOOF: PRO FOOTBALL TALK reports that apparently Michael Vick’s cousin, Davon Boddie, didn’t see Chris Mortensen’s July 6 report on ESPN in which Mort claimed Vick “is unlikely to be indicted in the dogfighting federal investigation“.

Mortensen today on ESPN Radio with Scott Van Pelt claimed that the Falcons lead him down the wrong (dirt) road on the Vick case. While that may be true, isn’t every Mort report dependent on sources? Seems to us that Mortensen doesn’t similarly trumpet his latest, convenient canary when he’s right. He takes the credit personally. In his defense, everyone gets stuff wrong. We’ve completely whiffed on the Dan Patrick replacement sweepstakes so far. So chill Chris, we still love ya.
The industrious gentlemen at PFT are intimating that Boddie, who lives on the Vick property in Virginia that was the scene of grisly dog abuse, WASN’T named in the indictment, and ratted out Vick after the Atlanta QB said in April “I’m never there. I’m never at the house. I left the house with my family members and my cousin. They just haven’t been doing the right thing. The issue will get resolved.”
Vick’s “cousin” in the quote is Boddie.
We don’t think it’s a stretch to say that if Vick didn’t drop Boddie into his conversation with the media, he may never had faced charges. But since he apparently attempted to throw his cousin under the bus in public, Boddie went Sanjaya to the Feds.
(Suggestion to PFT - get some permalinks going fellas!)
