Big Papi Working w/Run-DMC On New Rap Record

Since Shaq’s little rap about Kobe hit the internets, inspiring young children to do the same & creating a new demand in ring tones, other athletes are reconsidering attempts to toss their hat into the hip-hop ring. The latest to step up to the mic is the Big Papi himself, David Ortiz.

David Ortiz Run DMC

BOSTON DAILY lays down the 411 that the Red Sox slugger is collaborating on a music project with Run-D.M.C.’s Darryl McDaniels. Or as D.M.C. put it himself: “Me and Papi is doing a record. It’s gonna be crazy.”

McDaniels discussed the project with Papi during his apperance on WAAF’s Hill-Man Morning Show on Tuesday. No release date was mentioned for Ortiz’s musical debut, but D.M.C. did share a little insight as to how the collaboration came about:

The Harlem native told the hosts that he’s spent a lot of time with the Sox slugger, and that Ortiz’s favorite Run-D.M.C. song is “It’s Tricky.”

We’re more partial to “You Be Illin‘” ourselves.

But it won’t be the first time Run-D.M.C. has worked with a Boston-based performer. “Walk This Way” with Aerosmith, anyone?

Right now, it’s hard to tell how well sales will do. The Fenway faithful will likely snatch up enough copies to make the project profitable. Hopefully the record company will figure out a way to put Jonathan Papelbon & Manny Del Carmen’s version of “Blame It On The Rain” on the B-side.
