It’s always amusing when a buttoned-down sports personality decides for whatever reason to throw caution to the wind and blurt out something inappropriate before millions of television viewers. We won’t exactly call this an Artie Lange moment, but FOX’s Chris Myers amused us all on Sunday by managing to insult the Lions, Whoopi Goldberg and Julian Peterson Larry Foote all in one glorious sentence.
The video is below so you can hear for yourself, but suffice it to say that there was no real reason for Myers to compare playing for the Lions to dating the star of “Sister Act.” And that’s exactly what he did early in the first quarter of the Lions-Saints game. Here’s the quote:
Via TMZ:
“Of course Julian Peterson the speedy linebacker and Foote, going from two Super Bowls in Pittsburgh to a winless Detroit team, that’s like going from dating Beyonce to Whoopi Goldberg.”
As Miles said to Joel in “Risky Business,” sometimes you’ve just gotta say “What the ****.” Of course Miles didn’t have a big-time sportscasting gig with FOX, which in today’s gotcha climate could turn out to be be a former big-time sportscasting gig with FOX.
Fun fact about Myers: He was host of his own radio show, on Miami’s WKAT, when he was 16 years old. He was one of the better ESPN anchors, and scored the first interview with O.J. Simpson following his acquittal in 1995. The man is a veteran sportscaster in every sense of the term, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the blowback from this (in my opinion, minor) faux pas.
Especially after Whoopi gets her claws into him on “The View.”
Expect Kanye West to chime in on this as well.

Listen again. It’s a stupid comment but it wasn’t about Julian Peterson. He played for Seattle. It was about ex-Steeler Larry Foote.
