Dallas Cowboys To Host 2010 NBA All-Star Game

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been wary of hosting the NBA All-Star Game in Dallas, believing that his season-ticket holders would get shafted because the NBA controls most of the tickets to the game. Enter Jerry Jones. Yes, the unholiest of alliances is about to be unleashed upon us.

Mark Cuban and Jerry Jones

The Mavs and Cowboys are reportedly set to announce on Thursday that the 2010 game will be played at the Cowboys’ new stadium in Arlington. The stadium is set to seat 80,000 fans for football. Even if only 50,000 fans show up, it will shatter the attendance record for an All-Star Game, which was set in 1989 when the game was played at the Astrodome.

The DALLAS MORNING NEWS has the details. The arrangement has been rumored for some time:

The Mavericks have been working with the Cowboys and the NBA for several months in an attempt to land the 2010 game. Owner Mark Cuban confirmed to The Dallas Morning News in May that the Cowboys and Mavericks were working on a combined bid for the game.

There’s no word as of yet on whether or not the Cowboys’ Adam Jones will “make it rain” during the game.

It looks like the other events of All-Star weekend, like the dunk and 3-point contests, will be held at the American Airlines Center, the Mavs’ usual home.

This may turn out to be odd timing for Cuban, as it’s looking increasingly likely that the Mavericks are heading toward mediocrity. He probably won’t be too happy to have that on full display, as his legacy in Dallas has been turning a flailing franchise into a perennial contender. Unfortunately, it hasn’t resulted in a title and the window of opportunity is closing fast.

Is it really a good idea to have Pacman Jones and the NBA All-Star Game in the same city?

If they really want fans to show up, have Cuban & JJ square off in a halftime wrestling match. Winner will be crowned king of Dallas sports.

It should be a boon to the DFW strip clubs, as long as they remember to pack heat.

It's hard to find more entertaining owners than Jones & Cuban - even if they do drive you nuts once in a while.

I'm all for a Cuban-Jones wrestling smackdown. Myabe in mud or jello.

Er, perhaps I've said too much.
