College Baseball Player: Hat Sticker During Game

Earlier today I was emailed a photo that will send a chill down the spine of baseball traditionalists.

(Let Mr. Costas help you with that.)

In the shot, Prairie View shortstop James Fontenot is shown trying to field a throw at second base during a Prairie View-Texas A&M college baseball game last Monday in College Station, Texas.

So what is it about the photo that will undoubtedly give Bob Costas the vapors?

Check Fontenot’s cap. The gold, reflective sticker is still intact atop the shortstop’s fashionably, flat brim.

But wait maybe Fontenot just forgot to remove the sticker from his new ballcap brim?

The same Fontenot who nicknamed himself “Showtime” on his personal Facebook page? (Okay, maybe not.)

So will the college baseball player’s fashion statement soon lead to a trend among big leaguers?

If it buys ESPN’s Sports Reporters another week on its (hopeful) road to cancellation, I vote no.
