UPDATE: The Clear Channel news radio station in Asheville, WWNC-AM, is also reporting the “leaked” Tiger Woods statement. I now have an email into them.
As first reported by Rick Chandler at NBCSports.com’s Out Of Bounds, at least three Clear Channel radio stations in Asheville, North Carolina, are claiming this morning to have an excerpt of Tiger Woods’ apology to be read on Friday. Star 104.3, 99.9 Kiss Country and Rock 104.9 in Asheville have posted this statement on their respective websites:
Here’s the text that’s being leaked of Tiger Woods’ speech scheduled for Friday, 2/19 at 11AM.
“Directly to the point there is no one to blame but me for the mess I have put my wife and family through. I accept total and complete responsibility. My wife and I have been trying to work things out but sadly things have not worked out.
Again all the blame is upon me. We have decided to live apart with me having mutually agreed upon times when I can be with our children. I know that the world wants all the details of what transpired in our marriage but that is between my wife and I and will remain that way. I have to get on my life and that means playing golf again.
I have contacted The Masters and have informed them that my plan is to resume The Masters and they have said that they would welcome me with open arms. For that I am most grateful for I deserve nothing. Finally I want to thank all my fans around the world for standing by me when I let you down horribly. I failed all of you about as badly as a person can.
I apologize to everyone of you. I promise all of you that you will see a new Tiger Woods, a better Tiger Woods and I will not let you down. Now I’d like , by the grace of God and with His help, to get back to what I do best and that is playing golf. See you all at The Masters. God Bless you all. Tiger Woods”
I’ve got an email into all three stations to attempt to confirm that the “leaked” statement isn’t some sort of gag or satire. There’s no indication of that on the page where the statement was posted.
In checking other Clear Channel Stations, it appears that the Asheville stations are the only ones to claim to have secured the “leaked” apology.
Before you completely brush this story off, Asheville happens to be the site of one of Tiger Woods’ new golf developments.
Chandler notes of the apology:
Nothing surprising here really; except for Tiger playing the God card so heavily. It’s pretty much what was promised in a statement on his web site on Thursday.
Agree. Though the text is clunky and may well have been written by a promotions dept. assistant at one of the radio stations. We’ll see what the response of the Clear Channel stations is to my email. (If any.)
I wouldn’t be surprised if the statement is soon pulled off all the Clear Channel sites without comment. Or perhaps the stations will confirm the alleged veracity of the statement.

I’d be willing to bet my life that this is a hoax. The statement is poorly written and I would be shocked if the statement is that bad after having all this time to write it.

Those four paragraphs seem to be very weak if they truly are part of the statement, coming from known to be highly controlled and with the PR machine Tiger has in place.

No chance. As bad as Tiger’s PR advice has been, no professional agency would allow something this poorly written to come out of their shop.
“…with me having mutually agreed upon…”
“…my plan is to resume The Masters and they have said…”
No way.
11:16 am on February 18th, 2010
“Mutually agreed upon times”…sounds like someone is trying to be a lawyer without actually being on…i call fake.

Any PR firm that wrote that should be fired. TIger has never invoked God before in anything but a swear word; no way he’ll start now. He’s too proud and defiant to stoop to that for pr benefits when everyone knows it will be BS. Plus, no way he’ll go into the Masters with no warmup tournament beforehand. “See you at the Masters”?? Please.

Complete BS

>
That would be “my wife and me” in the English language.
>
Can anyone believe TW actually saying that?
My vote is for the production assistant, and not an especially smart one.

Wow, a CLEAR CHANNEL NEWS STATION has that on its website?
My god. Nice quality control guys.
I HOPE that is a prank.

So he is going to sign off on his press conference by stating his name at the end of it?

Well, Lyle, you’re the one who better head back to primary school.
You say “My wife and I went downtown.”
You say “while downtown, a bus ran over my wife and me.” You wouldn’t say, “a bus ran over I.” Neither would you say “a bus ran over my wife and I.”

This appears to originate on the website of a Clear Channel country station in Detroit, 99.5 WYCD:
http://dr-don-wycd.itmblog.com/2010/02/18/tiger-woods-statement-leaked/
The blog is written by their morning guy, Dr. Don Carpenter.
I smell a joke gone awry here.

Correction: it’s a CBS Radio station, not CC. My bad.

The over/under bet on the length of his speech is 8 minutes. This poorly written POS would take about 60 seconds. I’m not buying it.

The original text has been pulled from the Detroit radio station site that I linked to above.

You people are idiots. If it doesn’t say exactly that, it’s going to be pretty damn close to it.
Dopes.

Tiger is a dog - as one other poster said, everyone in Orlando knows that. He is an arrogant arse who believes his own publicity and thinks that he’s entitled to do anything he wants because he can hit a little ball into a slightly bigger hole. He gets by with it because millions of people are stupid enough to agree with him. Just because he plays a game well doesn’t make him anything special. He’s just another guy who can’t keep it zipped.
BirdieDan
Right you are. Putting sports athletes (and any other person for that matter) on a too-good-for anyone-else pedistal is a disaster waiting to happen. Tiger is a jerk and to hit a little white ball well he is given god-like status and admired by all those who like hitting a little white ball. I don’t mind that he can hit a little white ball well, I do dispise that people think he is superior to anyone as a person. Same for A-Rod Kobe, and any other over-paid jerk of an athlete who thinks they own people because they are paid exhorbitant amounts of money. Money destroys the true values in life. All men dont’ cheat, many are honorable and all the cheaters have no clue what that means and think that getting their kicks cheating makes them macho. Only in your own eyes turkeys, and your friends eyes who thinik like you. And that’as why your friends. It is called class and all your cheaters have none and never will.
When you choose to take millions from people, people own you. Tiger is no tiger, that is a misnomer. He is a pussy or better yet a SNAKE.
