ND COACH WEIS NOT IN THE PINK ABOUT GREEN UNIFORMS: If you ask Charlie Weis, things are going to get ugly this weekend in South Bend. He’s not talking about his 1-6 Irish squad - or maybe he is - but it’s more about the jerseys:
WSBT-TV gets a fashion tip that Notre Dame will don the emerald jerseys when they face USC this Saturday. And Weis doesn’t like it when his guys go green, saying “These uniforms are ugly.”
This year’s Wearing O’ The Green is in honor of the 1977 national championship team, who broke out the jerseys in their game against USC. And it’s also the first time any advanced warning was given about the uniform change.
For USC’s last visit in 2005, Weis surprised fans & NBC viewers by bringing out the jerseys again. And it almost worked, until Reggie Bush pushed Matt Leinart and the Trojans to victory.
But the ND players seem to enjoy the leprechaun look. Tight end John Carlson calls the duds “crazy & wild“, while tailback Travis Thomas likes the fact that it’s “something different - change is good.”
And with the abysmal season the Golden Domers have gone through, any change would be welcome. Thomas further compares the clothes to the look of the Green Bay Packers. And the Irish certainly could use a little Brett Favre right now. Or even Aaron Rodgers.
