Charles Grant will be heading to Georgia Thursday evening to turn himself him on involuntary manslaughter charges, stemming from a February fight that left a pregnant woman dead.
But first things first - before going, the New Orleans Saint went to practice.
Mike Triplett of the NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE reports that the defensive end was out on the practice field Wednesday morning, working out during one of the Saints’ “volunteer” sessions. A guy needs to be in shape before heading to court.
A grand jury in Early County, Georgia, indicted Grant and six other men on Tuesday for their roles in a February 3 fight that caused the shooting death of 23-year-old Korynda Reed, who was pregnant at the time. Grant has not been charged as the shooter.
Neither Grant, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello or the Early County district attorney are commenting on Grant’s charges. However, Saints coach Sean Payton spoke up to show his support for Charles:
“The bottom line is that they are very serious charges and we’re going to support him right now and do our best to help him, and help the league and help the state of Georgia with their investigation. I know Charles has been available and made an effort to do everything just as they want. And certainly that would be our advice to him.”
After the indictment, Grant plans on returning to Saints practice on Friday. At least he’s still dedicated enough to show up for team workouts, unlike some NFL’ers.
Then again, the only crime for some NFL’ers is finishing second in a dance competition, not finishing off an innocent bystander.
