Kyle Nagel of the DAYTON DAILY NEWS has an (unintentionally) amusing piece about controversy regarding the financial backers of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson.
Turns out that Slice’s MMA career has been fueled mainly by money made in the porno business, with a prominent adult entertainment arrangement behind his rise to network TV prominence.
Nagel notes:
Slice is the big, bearded MMA fighter who took on James Thompson during CBS’ Saturday telecast. One of his sponsors throughout much of his career has been Reality Kings, a company that produces and promotes pornographic movies. Earlier this month, EliteXC’s Eric Shaw told MMAJunkie.com that the sponsorship was not a problem.
Not a problem? Apparently Mr. Shaw hadn’t conferred with the suits at CBS before making that statement.
Nagel next notes:
Then, in a conference call leading up to Saturday’s ground breaking primetime broadcast, Shaw said Slice would not be allowed to advertise Reality Kings on CBS.
Wot? Wait a minute, doesn’t porn progenitor Hugh Hefner have one of the biggest reality shows on TV that is aired on a channel owned & operated by mainstream cable giant Comcast? Hasn’t sex-for-money-honey Jenna Jameson appeared on CBS in the past (along with countless other network television outlets)?
So why the bannimation for Slice’s behind-the-scenes, bangbus’d backers? At the very least, they should let Terrell Owens’ contribution to Kimbo’s career be accounted for.
