Carroll: ATL Gig “Not The Most Sought-After Job”

As usual, Scott Wolf of the L.A. DAILY NEWS has the best perspective on USC football news. Wolf reports today that Pete Carroll spoke to the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday about their vacant head-coaching position. This despite Carroll “denying any contact with the Falcons.

Wolf also notes several sources saying that “Carroll spoke to the Falcons on Wednesday by phone from his vacation house in Haleiwa, Hawaii. Sources said the Falcons did not offer him the job.

Much more interesting (and amusing for that matter) are comments Wolf recorded Carroll saying before the Rose Bowl - in which he essentially trashed the quality of the Falcons head coaching position.

Excerpt: “Before the Rose Bowl, Carroll dismissed the Falcons’ job as a possibility.

Carroll: “They’ve had a lot of problems there. It’s not the most sought-after job. I’m not sure who they would hire.

If you’re anything like us, you’ve taken classes about how to interview for jobs, and impress your prospective employer. We don’t remember learning that you should say that the positon you’re seeking is “not the most sought-after job.”

But then again, look at us. At home, alone … in our Sportrobe.

UPDATE: Titans coach (and former USC player) Jeff Fisher on Carroll being interested in the Falcons head coaching position - on Fox Sports Radio today: “I’d be real surprised if Pete takes this. He’s got a terrific thing going there.”
