Could Carmelo Get Caught In New Jersey’s Nets?

Carmelo Anthony could soon be taking his game to the Jersey swamps.

Al Iannazzone of the BERGEN RECORD reports that deals are in discussion to send the Nuggets star to the Nets. The reality of the trade could depend on how well New Jersey places in Tuesday’s NBA Draft Lottery.

So far, the tentative deal has Carmelo and Marcus Camby being shipped to East Rutherford, while Denver would receive Richard Jefferson, Marcus Williams, Keith Van Horn’s contract and the Nets’ lottery pick.

Currently, the Nets sit at 10th in the lottery standings. But some luck in Tuesday’s draw could place Jersey higher - and help move ‘Melo to their team. And the Nets could afford to give up their pick, as they also have the Maverick’s first selection that they obtained in the Jason Kidd trade.

A trade to New Jersey could be very beneficial to Anthony. A larger metro area can allow him to market himself to bigger masses. And by using the numerous public transportation systems available, Carmelo has a better chance to avoid any further auto embarrassments.

As for Jefferson in Denver, just make sure he’s always on the list for the city’s big civic celebrations - otherwise things could get ugly in a hurry.
