Caribou Barbie Mentions Phillies, Gets Booed

Hey, it’s another politics post! If this offends your sensibilities, we suggest you go here or here instead. Especially if you’re a Republican. UPDATE: Video after the jump.

Sarah Palin
(I’m so happy to be here at Auburn! Roll Tide!)

In the waning days before the Presidential election, most pundits agee that John McCain’s election strategy necessarily depends on winning Pennsylvania’s electoral votes. The McCain camp is spending most of its time and resources in the state, even though they have less than a week to make up a, let’s say, 7-10% deficit. McCain and his VP nominee, Sarah Palin, need to be absolutely perfect in their efforts in Pennsylvania between now and Tuesday, as any failure would be disastrous.

I think you can figure out exactly where this story’s going. Sarah Palin was at a campaign rally in Erie, PA, which (as you can imagine) is on Lake Erie, in the northwestern corner of the state. So while it’s technically in the same state as Philadelphia, it’s about 7 hours by car and 419 miles away. By way of comparison, Phoenix is “only” 373 miles away from Los Angeles. As Chris Mottram at THE SPORTING BLOG puts it (emphasis ours), “Western PA; most root for the Pirates, some root for the Indians, none root for the Philles.

The exact wrong thing to say, then, just so happened to be what came out Palin’s mouth Thursday: “I am thrilled to be here in the home state of the world-champion Philadelphia Phillies.” The crowd, still bitter, showered the governor from Alaska with boos, jeers, and allegations of socialism* and adherence to Islam**. Observe:

Of course, if this actually switches anybody’s vote, they’re morons of the highest order. But the McCain campaign doesn’t have time for anything but brilliance if they want to ascend to the White House, and despite what the outgoing President has spent 8 years trying to prove, you can’t fail your way to the top.

*We may be making this up.
**Ditto.

And her next campaign stop is in Cleveland, where she'll proudly proclaim, "Go Bengals!"

Obama also declared his support for the Phillies, but at least he did it in Philadelphia.

I'd rather vote for Michael Palin. And he's not even a U.S. citizen.

And if she wins, her inauguration speech in DC will start off with, "How 'bout them Cowboys?"

Your Honor, ladies and gentleman of the audience, I don’t think it’s fair to call my clients frauds. Sure, the blackout was a big problem for everybody. I was trapped in an elevator for two hours and I had to make the whole time. But I don’t blame them. Because one time, I turned into a dog and they helped me. Thank you.

Wow, I guess this site is mostly visited by liberals.  I would've guessed the opposite… true sports fans should want to keep the money they worked hard for to themselves and not give it away to folks who stay home and decide to be lazy.  Us sports fans need our money to gamble with on close games!

Also sports fans are getting tired of paying $50-$100 for tickets that fatten the wallet of the already ridiculously wealthy owners and players.

I agree bro.  I hope Brooks' leanings don't affect how people vote.

This site should be only about sports.

Since I didn't write the post, I suppose it doesn't rep my leanings. Which at this moment prob don't matter anyway, since Obama has it in the bag!

Though I highly appreciate your dislike for Carl Peterson , I can't overlook that you are the editor for your own site.  You had the final word before Adam J's article was posted.
You mention that Obama has it "in the bag"?  I think you just showed your cards.

I hope, as a small business owner, you understand the effects his new tax policies will reduce your income.

Oh, well. As someone who has a very good memory of the last time Republicans were completely shut out of political power in DC (and I'll bet Brooks does, too), let's just say some of you commenters are going to be astounded and agitated at how much fun the Red-Headed Bastard Stepchildren of American Politics are going to have at Mr. Hope-and-Change's expense.
