WBZ-TV reports today the final bid in the Ebay auction for the David Ortiz jersey that was buried during construction of the new Yankee stadium was $175,100. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Jimmy Fund, a children’s cancer charity.
The winning bid came from “2004carman,” but the person behind the account has yet to be identified.
So was that a good price on the exhumed uni?
If Ortiz ends up with a hall of fame career, you can probably double or triple the value of the jersey to Boston fans.
Like most memorabilia, it’s a regional piece unless the player is in the HOF or there are some other extenuating circumstances, like the Bosox beating the Yanks in the ALCS this season. For a lot of mentally ill Massholes, that would validate some sort of absurd curse.
