Buffalo Bills Want To Play Home Games In Toronto

J.P. LOSMAN’S SIGNATURE POUTINE” HAS NICE RING TO IT: The BUFFALO NEWS reports today that the Bills are “seeking county and state permission” to play preseason and regular-season games at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

After being outed by the newspaper, a Bills spokesman said in a press release that the team playing in Toronto would “increase its focus on the northern sector of its market.”

The Univ. at Buffalo’s Regional Institute has a recent report out that claims there are as many as 15,000 Canadian fans at a given Bills home game.

But County legislator Gregory Olma said of the team playing home games in Toronto, “Given the fact that [the team’s lease is] an expensive agreement, and the taxpayers are propping up the Bills every year, I think it’s an insult.

North of the border, CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon said, “The statement is coming from the Buffalo Bills, not the NFL. We will wait to see if the NFL endorses the team doing that.

As reported on SbB many times, Toronto seems like a logical expansion (or relocation) move for the NFL. A struggling franchise like Jacksonville would under consideration to move there. But if the NFL does employ a team permanently in T.O., the viability of the already flimsy CFL will certainly be called into question.
