BUD SELIG EYES BEJING DESPITE EMPTY SEATS STATESIDE: Bud Selig met the media last night in Boston to discuss issues currently facing baseball. Besides the colossal bore that is the Barry Bonds home run record chase (and whether Selig will attend the proceedings), the hot topic was the continued internationalization of the game.

Selig: “People have asked me what our next big goal in the sport is, and it’s the internalization of the sport. The sport is … more popular than it’s ever been. I think the potential for internalization is something, so this is all part of it. And we do want to play some games there, hopefully as early as next year.”

Instead of worrying about attracting Dell computer call center workers in Bangalore to the wonderment of MLB, perhaps Selig should occupy himself with the challenge of the Devil Rays selling out a 9,000 seat stadium in a Top-35 American market for a regular season game.
