The owner of the Cleveland Browns has denied rumors that he’s fleeing the country in order to take hands-on control of his English soccer club.
(”Let’s see - am I supposed to go to Game 6 or Game 9?“)
Jeff Schudel of the WILLLOUGHBY (OH) NEWS-HERALD reports that Randy Lerner, who purchased the Aston Villa club in 2006, retorts any reports from English newspapers that he plans to take up permanent residence across the Pond.
Both the GUARDIAN & the TELEGRAPH had reported that Lerner was going to “set up a permanent home in the Midlands next season” and take over the role of CEO for the Club.
What? Leave the glory of northeast Ohio behind? Well, Randy may be buying a British bungalow, but that doesn’t mean he’s becoming a humble subject of the Queen:
“To clarify recent reports, I’m not becoming a permanent resident/citizen of the UK,” Lerner said in an e-mail response. “I will not be changing the amount of time I spend with either the Browns or Aston Villa, nor will I be assuming the title or role of chief executive officer of Villa. The responsibilities of that position are currently spread among several people at the club, and I am comfortable and confident continuing in that manner.”
That’s too bad for Brady Quinn, who was probably hoping for Randy to take Derek Anderson with him.
