Breaking: Belichick Pissed When You Don’t Block

Our former KC radio show partner, Joe Posnanski of the KANSAS CITY STAR, has a cheerful piece today on Bill Belichick - as told by Chiefs Tight End Tony Gonzalez.

Bill Belichick

Belichick coached Gonzalez in last season’s Pro Bowl, and had this to say when Gonzalez blew a block on special teams: “Why don’t you (bleeping) block somebody, Gonzalez.

It is rather amusing that Belichick actually reacted to a Pro Bowl special teams gaffe, but to his credit, Gonzalez later laid out an opponent on the kickoff return team - to nary an audible word from the Patriots coach.

We’re still trying to figure out the point of the piece, beyond the fact that Gonzalez would’ve loafed through the entire game (at least on special teams) if Belichick hadn’t thrown his ego down the stairs.

Yes, Belichick is obsessed, and humorless. And uber-competitive. But so are 99% of all NFL coaches. What makes him great is his ability, along with Pats personnel guy Scott Pioli, to judge talent and get the roster to wing everything for a ring. Playing both ways, taking less money to allow more talent to be acquired and being happy on the bench are factors most responsible for the Pats’ remarkable six-year run.

That, and a handy little camcorder on occasion.

UPDATE: Couple photos of Tony Gonzalez’ smoking hot wife (wait, WIFE?):
