We’ve heard ESPN has completely yanked all coverage of the Dana Jacobson story. Bristol has also begun directing ESPN-owned radio stations to stop mentioning Jacobson on-air and remove Jacobson-related material from its websites.
Think the Jacobson photos coming out today had something to do with that?
We thought it was a little bizarre how much ESPN covered the story in the first place. A fraction of ESPN’s audience was even aware of the roast, yet the net covered it on SportsCenter, ESPN.com and ESPN Radio like it was one of the week’s lead stories (it shouldn’t have been). We think the net’s suits were probably using the story to promote that god-awful ESPN radio morning debacle which shall go unnamed.
But when the photos (and soon, video?) came out, things started getting really messy.
It’s one thing to get out ahead of a story or accusation (see Randy Moss). It’s another to overblow the story by constantly reminding people about it.
