Booze, Rude Gestures Lead To Scots’ Lifetime Ban

The age-old question has finally been answered. How much do you have to drink to get kicked off the Scottish national team?

Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor

Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor began their celebration consolation for beating losing to the Netherlands in World Cup qualifying by hitting the bottle beginning at 4 a.m. last Sunday. They didn’t stop the boozing until lunchtime.

And when benched for this week’s match against Iceland, the duo responded contritely and maturely, as seen above. As a result, their careers in top level soccer are all but over. MLS, here they come!

Bonus WAG pics, after the jump.

Between the drinking and the “eating at the Y” gesture, the two have been fined and suspended by Rangers, their Scottish Premier League team, of which Ferguson is captain. They’ve been privately told that their time in Glasgow has come to an end, and that they won’t be considered for future international games either.

Rangers manager Walter Smith made the announcement, using that exclusively Scottish word “Drinkwise:”

“Drinkwise, yes, it was in itself wrong,” Smith explained. “But they are not the first group of Scottish players to do that. What was more disappointing for me was their subsequent reaction when they were on the bench. I don’t think it reflected well on them and certainly did not reflect well on the club.”

Ferguson’s a good player; he’ll find a team quickly. But McGregor’s best known for his impressive collection of WAGs; up to 10 at a time, as was revealed last year. For you viewing pleasure, here’s one, a miss Clair Meek.
