It was fun for the Iowa Hawkeyes at last season’s Outback Bowl, where they trounced South Carolina 31-10. It was even more fun for Iowa football broadcaster Ed Podolak, who spent his time down in Tampa taking peeks down women’s shirts.
However, when photos of Ed’s boob viewing hit the web, Podolak decided to retire from the radio gig he held since 1982. Ed’s alleged alcohol problem also had some bearing on his decision to move off the mic, as Podolak sought some professional treament.
But it looks like Ed’s treatment must have worked, because he’s coming back to the Hawkeye broadcasting booth.
KCRG-TV reports that Podolak will be back on the air on September 5 when the Hawkeyes host Northern Iowa at Kinnick Stadium. The announcement came after Podolak had recently met with Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta to update Ed’s current status in dealing with his personal problems.
Barta must have been pleased with Podolak’s progress, and Gary gave the go-ahead for Ed’s return. The A.D. then gave this statement:
“It’s great to know Ed will be back in the booth for another Hawkeye football season. He has the football knowledge, he knows Iowa’s history, and wears Hawkeye pride on his sleeve better than anyone I’ve met. I’m very proud of Ed, and can’t wait to hear him calling the games this fall.”
We’ll be keeping abreast of Podolak’s further progress, just like how Ed kept a breast in Tampa.
