Holder of Bonds’ 762nd HR Hoping To Have $1 Mil

KCNC-TV in Denver reports that the fan who caught Barry Bonds’ possible last home run has finally come forward. And the holder of the hopefully historic horsehide plans to auction it off, maybe selling it for up to … (dramatic zoom-in) ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

Jameson Sutton Dr Evil

Jameson Sutton was the lucky fan to walk away from Coors Field on Sept. 5 with Barry’s base-clearing boomer #762. But the ball bearer had stayed anonymous for months, until an auction house was able to track him down.

SCP Auctions - the firm that handled the sale of Bonds’ Hank Aaron-tying 755th homer - was able to study game film and talk to other spectators to finally confirm Sutton as the rightful owner. Even then, Jameson was a little hesitant to sell:

I thought it would be cool if I could keep it and give it to my grandson one day, or grandkids, but it’s just too important of a ball for me to just have in my house laying around, I’d rather someone else have it who can protect it and do what they would like to do with it.”

In other words - “Show me the money!

And a lot could be shown. Since Bonds is currently teamless and awaiting his federal trial for perjury, it’s a good chance that Barry’s 762nd will be his last in the major leagues.

The auction will be held online, and it expected to start on March 31. Jameson better pray that the Rays don’t get desperate before then.
