Black Eyed Peas To Play ‘11 Super Bowl Halftime

Today I learned from a source that the Black Eyed Peas will be the musical act that will play at halftime of the 2011 Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

Black Eyed Peas to play 2011 Super Bowl Halftime

When asked about my report regarding the Black Eyed Peas playing the 2011 Super Bowl halftime show, an NFL spokesman said the league had no comment.

The band does have a past connection to the NFL and the Super Bowl. It was part of the 2005 Super Bowl pregame show titled, “Bridging Generations.” Earth, Wind and Fire, Gretchen Wilson performing with The Charlie Daniels Band, and Alicia Keys were also featured in the production.

Additionally, the Black Eyed Peas performed at the NFL Kickoff Concert in Pittsburgh in 2009.

I don’t mind a modern act. But couldn’t we have at least gotten one that isn’t completely awful? OutKast would’ve been great, for instance. There are a number of great musicians out there, and the NFL goes for pure lowest common denominator. Awful.

Perhaps the Black Eyed Peas aren’t everyone’s taste, but I’m happy for them landing the spot. I’ve liked them since I first heard the song “Weekends” on MTV2 ten years ago, pre-Fergie. There are few groups that have their current level of pop appeal.

They say everything’s bigger in Texas, but the Black Eyed Peas performing halftime of Super Bowl XLV? I’m sorry, folks. It would’ve made much more sense if the NFL and FOX Sports played a more appropriate Texas-style band such as ZZ Top or The Eagles whose frontman Don Henley hails from the “Lone Star State”. As a classic rock fan, I’m very disappointed in this choice if they are indeed the pick come February at the “House that Jerry (Jones) Built” in Arlington, TX.

Awful. And it appears that at least some some controversial, vulgar political/societal views don’t disqualify you from affiliation with the NFL.

Wow… yet ANOTHER band that appeals ZERO to people that like football. I’d say that it’s unfair to torture football fans that have paid a lot of money for Super Bowl tickets with that ridiculous music, but then I realized that NO genuine football fans buy tickets for the Super Bowl. For something that is actually the nation’s best sport, they sure do make a mockery of their own product once it comes to the biggest game of the year. Try appealing to actual SPORTS FANS… just once!

The Cowboys Stadium is not in Dallas, Texas. The Stadium is in Arlington, Texas. The sound system in the stadium is not built for concert setting so Black Eye Pea will do fine.

Too funny Prissy! Why not just have Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and whatever other tween-pops we can trot out there because, as we all know, it’s not about the quality of music… it’s about how young we can get them, and pretend that they’re actually talented and artistic.

Uggg more Black Eyed Peas? Hopefully the NFL gets someone from Texas to sing the national anthem then. There are a ton of great singers from there who would do the anthem justice, Kelly Clarkson & Beyonce to name a few.

    BobbyDodds,
They don’t need to appeal to football fans, we will watch the game anyway.
Peas will do a great halftime show. It’s not about the music — halftime show is for the entertainment factor. Last year, The Who, awesome music — performance was embarrassing. I don’t want to see grandpa jumping around trying to act young. Time for some fresh blood.

I’m sure National Anthem will be a country music singer.

The only thing I can figure is that The Who, last year’s choice at Super Bowl XLIV down in Miami, didn’t exactly get the greatest of reviews when they performed at halftime of Saints/Colts at what’s now called SunLife Stadium. I don’t just single out ZZ Top and/or The Eagles as acts that the NFL could’ve selected for halftime. I thought that country music would’ve also been ideal given the fact Super Bowl XLV will be in Arlington, TX. The NFL can do much better than Black Eyed Peas.

This is Dallas / Fort Worth (actually Arlington) - we need a better act than these black eyes. Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, or Garth Brooks (something country) is a better choice.

The half time show is always terrible. Hw about making it the same length as a regular game so we can get back to watching football and just skip the over done half time BS that always features has-beens and never weres. Black eyed peas, 75% of the viewers won’t know who they are, the other 25% won’t care and 100% will think they suck.

I understand it being about the ‘entertainment’ but honestly, are these guys entertaining to anyone other than kids, who likely won’t be tuning in to the SuperBowl live, and SURE as well, won’t be watching the actual show… Black Eyed Peas are the BEST option they could come up with? It’s a lazy, uninspired choice that alienates football fans, grown ups and anybody with taste in actual music-to the point of them not only NOT paying that much attention, but actually turning down the cacophony (I’ll give you Black Eyed Peas fans a few minutes to look up the meaning of that word).

Last I heard, absolutely no-one pays any attention to a “half time band”. It’s just out of place. I have watched the Cowboys with my Papa since I was a little girl, living in the Dallas area since I was born,,, and I have listened to Fergie as a Female soloist and when she joined with The BEP’s. She is legit as a soloist! She has a beautifully trained voice and has some amazing songs on her albums! You cannot take that from her! Now, does she get trashy in the videos on with the BEP’s…yep… but consider the content of what they are singing about… and she is only playing the part to a T! I think that she is a very talented and beautiful girl, who is being trashed without being given credit for all that she accomplished on her own and then with the group too! Go girl,,, and I am a die hard football fan! I have fantasy leagues,,, and I have football boards too! So, I am fairly impartial! TX DCLVR

WHAT! I WILL DEFINITELY be changing the channel during Half Time! And I actually do agree a more texas centered group would have been more appropriate! ZZTop would have been AWESOME to see! Since I work and subscribe to DISH Network, I have the pleasure of watching the game on Logitech Revue and I’m tweeting about the game right now. I got it for a $120 discount of $179 instead of the MSRP price of $299. No matter who wins, they both played their heart out, but I personally want the Packers bring home the ring tonight.
