COACH FAILS TO FOIL FIELD GOAL WITH LAST-SECOND T.O.: The 3rd time wasn’t a charm for Bills coach Dick Jauron, as a timeout trick tried twice before by other coaches didn’t work out at Ralph Wilson Stadium:

As most of the country watched the Yankees lose (oh, and the Indians win), the Dallas Cowboys were lining up for a final-play field goal attempt in their Monday night game against Buffalo.
On the snap, the ‘Boys had both hands on the ball this time, as rookie kicker Nick Folk knotted a 53-yarder to win the game. Well, it would have won the game, had Jauron not called a timeout right before the hike.
Dick’s decision has been a recurring trend in the NFL this season. In week 2, Mike Shanahan called for time right before the Raiders’ Sebastian Janikowski thought he booted Oakland to victory over the Broncos. On his next attempt, Janikowski missed, and Denver eventually won in OT thanks to their kicker Jason Elam.

The following Sunday, Lane Kiffin pulled the same prank on the Cleveland Browns, when Phil Dawson’s kick sailed through the uprights right after the T.O. was called. On the next try, Dawson’s boot was blocked, and the Raiders got a measure of revenge.
Unfortunately for Buffalo, the ball didn’t bounce their way, as Folk’s do-over had no problem going through. Dallas left Western New York with their undefeated record in tact, while Dick and the Bills were left shaking their heads.
