Yes, that’s Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger imploring young readers to check out a good book today. As it says, every time a student uses their library card this month, they’re eligible for fantastic prizes!
It does seem strange that a Pittsburgh player would be used to encourage Los Angeles kids to read. However, the children of the Southland have no hometown NFL star or franchise to call their own. And Ben did win a Super Bowl. So, why not?
It was also a nice touch that the filers came in yellow & black - the colors of the Steelers.
We bet Peyton Manning wanted too many perks in order to appear on the free sheets - like unlimited access to the periodicals room for closed-door team meetings.
