ESPN’s John Clayton reports that the Bears have had enough of Cedric Benson, as the team finally waived the troubled running back on Monday.
(Cedric’s not smiling today)
The Monsters of the Midway figured they didn’t need the monster headache Benson was becoming, after Cedric was charged with a DUI last Saturday - his second arrest in less than a month, but his first on land.
Maybe the Bears would have been more forgiving had Benson been a better player.
Take Lance Briggs, for example. The Chicago linebacker had clashed with team management before, holding out & claiming he no longer wanted to be a Bear. And let’s not forget Lance’ little Lamborghini crash, when he decided to flee the scene of an accident.
And how did the Bears react to Briggs’ boneheaded-ness? They signed him to a new 6-year, $36 million deal in March.
Then again, Lance is a 3-time All-Pro. Cedric is not.
Well, now that he’s been blown out of the Windy City, where will Benson bounce to next? We wouldn’t be surprised if he soon saddles up with the Dallas Cowboys. Cedric is a Texas Longhorn alum, after all, and Jerry Jones’ squad has established quite the reputation as the NFL’s premier halfway house. Just as Tank Johnson & Pacman Jones.
