EURO POLICE WANT TO TAKE CHEER OUT OF SOCCER BEER: The ASSOCIATED PRESS reports “Austrian police want fans to drink weak beer served in plastic cups at the 2008 European Championship to reduce potential violence.”

Last week Austrian authorities said they encouraged co-hosts Austria and Switzerland to formulate a “Euro 2008 beer” and “Euro 2008 mugs” - which means “low-alcohol strength beer in cups that can’t be used as projectiles.”

Vienna police spokesman Peter Jedelsky: “We’re close to working out a light beer with the beer industry (served in plastic cups that) wouldn’t inflict pain on anyone.”

He’s half right on the light beer. No pain during the game but the next morning is a whole ‘nother story.
