Byrne’s attention-grabbing Twitter and photography skills left the media and college football fans agog as they pondered the possibilities of social media.

He also happened to hire the school’s next football coach in the process.

In an announcement confirming an earlier report by Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports that the school had hired Rich Rodriguez as its next football coach, Byrne Tweeted: “And the new Arizona football coach and his family is…….

At the end of the Tweet Byrne linked what turned out to be a photo of himself and the Rodriguez family.

The hire ended a process that began when Byrne fired Mike Stoops on Oct. 10, 2011. Stoops was relieved of his head coaching duties after a 1-5 start - with a devastating loss to Pac-12 also-ran Oregon State the final straw.

Beyond Rodriguez, Mike Leach and Mike Bellotti were also considered for the job.
