Anniversary of Magic Johnson\’s 1992 All-Star Game

Today marks the 15th anniversary of Magic Johnson’s MVP performance in the 1992 NBA All-Star Game, held three months after he retired from the Lakers due to contracting HIV.

It was simply one of the most memorable All-Star Game moments in any sport. No one thought, at the time, that Magic would be around today to celebrate such an anniversary. And that’s what made it so special.

But he’s done more since contracting the disease than most people have without, winning an Olympic gold medal, coaching and playing for the Lakers, hosting a failed talk show, building an empire of franchises and somehow doubling his weight carrying HIV.
