Angels, USC PBP Guy Markas Dies Of Heart Attack

I’ve confirmed through multiple media sources this morning here in Los Angeles that Angels and USC basketball announcer Rory Markas has died. The news is also being reported by KNX-AM and KTTV television in L.A.

Rory Markas dead at 56

(I knew him, a good guy. He’ll def. be missed.)

I’m told the cause of death was a heart attack. Markas was 56.

Markas was found dead at his home early this morning. Late last year he was hospitalized for a blood clot in his brain. It is not known if that contributed to his death.

He had recently been named the full-time #1 TV announcer for the Angels after spending 11 years doing radio and TV for the club. He had also been the radio voice of USC basketball since 2000. Markas was previously a local TV sports news anchor and announced L.A. Clippers games.

Sad day for the broadcast biz, Markas was a good man. I knew him from my days at USC flagship KMPC. He’ll be missed.

Angel games won’t be the same, no Hud, no Rory Markas. How sad. Life is short……

Sad day in the Angels clubhouse! Rory as the staple, in the after game talk show on the ride home, breaking down the game. Now, after jsut being brought full time to announce the games on tv, and we lose him, and Hud……gone way too soon, R.I.P. Rory…you will be missed

Wow! Brooks didn’t throw in his shameless “I used to to minor league…radio…” spiel. I guess respect for the dead and all. Tremendous restraint. Rory and Hud were a great team. Bad start to ‘10.

Haha, that’s EXACTLY what I was expecting to read in this post. Great minds…
